Repairs
Solid design and maintenance prevent most structural damage but of course, nothing lasts forever. A Hunterstruct repair strategy begins by stabilizing the structure using temporary supports. Next, we restore or upgrade materials, finishing by ensuring the problem will not reoccur.
Insects and water caused most of the damage visible in these photos. These factors appear to work slowly, often from the inside out, disguising damage until a structure fails.
Most repairs are intended to recreate a structure, making it as it was originally intended to be. This is fine and often necessary. However, a repair can also be an opportunity to improve a structure. In one case, for example, the homeowner suggested adding a window to brighten a ground floor suite, which helped make the building better than ever.
| Structural repairs form a important part of Hunterstruct service. Here we’ve installed temporary supports from roof to ground to support this building prior to removal of four rotted columns. |

This dramatic shot demonstrates how well crucial temporary supports work. The building’s hipped roof design places a great load on this corner post. |
| Mostly re-framed, a poorly waterproofed deck rotted the joists and studwork supporting this home’s front wall. Carpenter ants contributed to the problem. |

Damage caused by water and insects can often be well advanced long before it is noticed as this picture shows. Every structural member of this repair area was affected. |
| With the old deck removed, the new deck’s joists are in place, resting on temporary supports. The beam being hoisted will rest on the support braces right and left of centre, permanently supporting joisting and new deck. |
