Most would agree that kitchens are the heart of a home. Curiously, the words “heart” and “hearth’ are closely connected in origin, the hearth being, of course, an age old cooking area.

A modest addition to the home’s exterior coupled with some interior structural modifications laid the groundwork for this kitchen. As shown in the before/after photo below, removing wall sections opens the kitchen space to the rest of the home.

 

Use of natural materials is a large part of this kitchen’s design success. Tiles offer an earthy feel, while being immensely practical in a kitchen.

Many kitchen professionals agree that a galley style floor plan can be a real step saver. To increase its size, we built an addition to increase floor area of this smaller home.

Click For Larger Image Ceiling “cutaways” add texture to a room, while giving the illusion of greater ceiling height. They work well also to tuck away the already unobtrusive pot lighting used.
